Being single has so many pros (and a couple of cons, ok? doesn’t everything though?) like having ample independence, and that includes watching whatever movies and shows you feel like… all the time. Yesssss.
I’m still adjusting to the single life, but I’m taking it one day at a time and remembering that this time was given to me as a time to grow and get to know myself better.
Let me know if you’d like to see more single-related blog posts. I have a few ideas that I think you’ll really enjoy!
Anyway, I wanted to create a list of shows and movies that I love that are also just great to watch alone. With snacks of course… and maybe a dog or cat. 🙂
Watching things alone feels so freeing. It’s the simplest thing, but I feel like it really allows you to just enjoy a distraction for a little while, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
So, next time you need a little self-care night in and can’t figure out what to watch, look no further.
(Seasons 1-3 on Netflix, Season 4 on Starz, Season 5 Releases on Starz in February 2020)
Ok so… I have a confession to make… I’m addicted to Outlander (*cough cough* Jamie Fraser and that Scottish accent ahhh) and I also got my mom and my sister addicted too!
This show is just pure gold. Strong, smart, kick ass female lead. Sexy, adorable, feminist male lead. Basically, these are two perfect reasons to just go ahead and watch this show now.
If you enjoy history, romance, and strong characters you’ll fall in love with, then you are going to love Outlander.
Why is it perfect to watch while you’re single? Well, let’s just say… some dudes might get jealous of just how in love you’re about to fall with Jamie Fraser…
(Seasons 1-3 on Netflix – Netflix Original)
Love is just … *sigh* … one of those rare shows you find once in a blue moon that you can watch over and over again and never get sick of it. Kinda like The Office but better character development (sorry, I said it, don’t hate me).
The characters are just so relatable, especially if you’re a lost 20 or 30-something. This show is perfect for you.
Why is it perfect to watch while you’re single? Love goes through the best times in relationships and the worst. It will make you laugh and cry. Watching this show makes you realize you’re actually doing okay no matter where you’re at in life.
(Seasons 1-2 on Netflix – Netflix Original)
Want the motivation to stay single? Then, look no further.
So, if you haven’t hopped on the You bandwagon yet, here’s your calling!
You goes through the motions of the craziest relationships you can even think of. You kind of hate yourself for being in a love-hate relationship with Will/Joe, right?
This show will have you questioning your own sanity – like am I not normal, am I crazy? Nope, just everyone else on this show is. Completely. F#@king crazy. It’s not you, it’s them.
Why is it perfect to watch while you’re single? I mean, it’s just an insane, exciting show that’s super easy to binge-watch. And let’s face it – binge-watching is a lot easier when it’s just you (one singular person) picking the snacks and taking bathroom breaks. 😉
(Seasons 1-7 on Netflix)
So, I have to admit, I came late to the New Girl bandwagon. I know, I know. I’m ashamed too!
This show is so special because it’s A) super funny B) super cute and C) has some *super* awesome tidbits of wisdom!
Navigate through life with Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and enjoy every second!
Why is it perfect to watch while you’re single? This show is really relatable, especially if you’re single or going through life changes. Also, we all need a go-to show to watch when we just want to put something on that makes us feel good!
The Kissing Booth
(Netflix Original Movie)
Okay, so yeah it’s cringey. And no, it’s not a cinematic masterpiece. But… I still love it.
And it’s great if you wanna watch something cute and highschool-romantic-y. Yes, it definitely meets that criteria.
Also, the main dude is very easy on the eyes.
Why is it perfect to watch while you’re single? The Kissing Booth just makes you happy when you watch it. Save it for a day when you just need a little pick-me-up. It’s the perfect film for that.
A Cinderella Story
(2004 Movie starring Hilary Duff)
So if you’ve been an avid reader of my blog or you know me in real life, you know how much I adore the original A Cinderella Story.
It just makes you feel good.
And there’s a huge Hilary Duff resurgence now that they’ve announced they’re working on a new Lizzie McGuire. Hi, I loved Hilary back in 2003 and she was my whole life. Ok?
But, anyway, this movie is a light-hearted, feel-good film that you shouldn’t be embarrassed to admit you kinda love.
Why is it perfect to watch while you’re single? A Cinderella Story is amazing for those days when you just want to stand up for yourself and claim what you want from the world. Ok… maybe that’s a little far out there, but if you’re looking for an easy-to-watch movie with a (predictable) happy ending, then this one’s for you.
(Netflix Original Movie)
Ok, I saved the best for last. This movie is awesome.
And it’s the best thing on Netflix to watch while you’re single IMO.
Here’s the super-short synopsis: Dumped by her long-term boyfriend, a music journalist recruits her two best friends for one last outrageous adventure in New York City before she moves to San Francisco.
This movie will make you cry and make you smile. It’ll make you feel like your single-ness is a necessary chapter for growth and maturity.
Why is it perfect to watch while you’re single? This film has single, strong, badass woman written all throughout it. No other explanation needed. Just watch it.
These aren’t on Netflix (whyyyyyyy?) but can be found on other platforms. I thought they were worth mentioning.
Going the Distance, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, & 10 Things I Hate About You!
So, what movies & shows will you be watching from this list? I think I’m going to plan a self care night with myself one weekend. I’ll watch a few movies, eat some yummy snacks (macadamia nuts and graham crackers with brownie hummus please!) and maybe do a face mask!
Have you already watched any of these? If so – which one is your favorite? And what would you add to this list?!
